Munich Residenz, spreading through the first floor of the south wing of the Grottenhof. In his diary, the Bavarian Elector Karl Albrecht lamented the losses caused by the conflagration, but observed that the Hausschatz or family treasury had luckily been spared.' Shortly . The Munich Residenz (Münchner Residenz, Munich Residence) is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the House of Wittelsbach in the centre of the city of Munich, Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany and is today open to visitors for its architecture, room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections.
ene - From the Treasury of the Residenz, which was the palace of the Bavarian rulers since let’s just say the dawn of time (a.k.a the 16th century). There was an earlier 14th century castle on the site, but I am not counting that. The Residenz was built up over the centuries, until it was a massive thing. What I find most amazing is that it was almost completely destroyed during WWII. The Schatzkammer (treasury room) is attached to the Residenz but with a separate entrance as I remember. It is filled with knick knacks that only kings could afford. It represents 3 centuries of collecting by the rulers of Bavaria. The visit took a relatively small amount of time. The Residenz itself was overwhelming to my taste.

It is well worth it to get the combined ticket to the /5(K). The Residenz is okay, but the treasury is not to be missed. The Munich Residenz - although beautiful in areas - is not really authentic - having been almost totally destroyed during WW2.

Schatzkammer (Treasury). The treasury of the Residenz contains enough beauty to keep the visitor happy for many hours – Emperor Charles the Bald’s prayer book and a jewel-encrusted statuette of St. George and the dragon are well worth searching for – but nothing compares to the sublime beauty and subtlety of the Palatine Crown.
