Mac OS X Internals: A Systems Approach is the first book that dissects the internals of the system, presenting a detailed picture that grows incrementally as you read. For example, you will learn the roles of the firmware, the bootloader, the Mach and BSD kernel components (including the process, virtual memory, IPC, and file system layers Brand: Pearson Education.   An in-depth look into Mac OS X and iOS kernels Powering Macs, iPhones, iPads and more, OS X and iOS are becoming ubiquitous. When it comes to documentation, however, much of them are shrouded in mystery. Cocoa and Carbon, the application frameworks, are neatly described, but system Author: Jonathan Levin.

Mac OS X and iOS Internals: To the Apple’s Core An in-depth look into Mac OS X and iOS kernels. From architecture to implementation, this book is essential reading if you want to get serious about the internal workings of Mac OS X and iOS. From the Back Cover Peeling Apple’s Operating Systems.   I noticed that Amit's book came out in June Now that it's almost 2 years later and has come out, etc. would those of you who are familiar with this book still say it's $65 relevant? The book is exactly what I am looking .

This is best book on OS X internals since Amit Singh's Mac OS X Internals: A Systems Approach, and certainly a good companion to the iOS Hacker's Handbook. It covers OS X up to Lion and iOS up to iOS 5, which is understandable as it would be almost impossible to publish an up to date book given Apple's release schedule/5(22).   Mac OS® X and iOS Internals TO THE APPLE’S CORE Jonathan Levin Mac OS® X and iOS Internal Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. "I have a bunch of OS internals books, but this one at pages is more than twice as big as the next biggest. There are two reasons: Mac OS X is the most functionally rich of any OS I know of, and Singh covers it in amazing detail.".

I really enjoyed Mac OS X Internals by Amit Singh. This book tries to be more up-to-date and it is also less verbose.

I consider the latter as a good thing - for example to understand the boot loader you don't need to write an implementation for The Towers of Hanoi/5.

Understanding the design, implementation, and workings of Mac OS X requires examination of several technologies that differ in their age, origins, philosophies, and roles. These aren't found in the book, but as I continue my exploration of OS X and iOS, I'll add here: Supraudit - is a praudit(8) clone on steroids which can track all activity on a MacOS system via the built-in.

“Mac OS X Internals: A Systems Approach” by Amit Singh is pretty dated (published a decade ago!), but it is a very good book. At least if you are looking for how the system actually works, and sometimes why.

So, my question really is: is there any other book, as comprehensive and detailed as this one.
